Kelly Clarkson may have one of the most popular daytime talk shows in the U.S., but great ratings and Emmy Awards may not be enough to keep the first-ever “American Idol” winner happy behind the scenes. Rumors have swirled for months that Clarkson has wanted to spend more time with her kids, and that “insanely complicated” personal matters have been impacting her stress levels.
After months of rumors that Clarkson has been unhappy at “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” an insider told People on July 10, 2025, that she is seriously considering making changes when her contract ends after the show’s seventh season, which premieres in the fall.
The news came just hours after Clarkson and her team received eight Daytime Emmy Award nominations, including for Outstanding Daytime Talk Series and Outstanding Daytime Talk Series Host, per Billboard.
Insider Says Kelly Clarkson Realizes Her ‘Daytime TV is Still Demanding’ Wherever She Goes
“The Kelly Clarkson Show” launched in 2019, but production moved from Los Angeles to New York in 2023 after Clarkson’s bitter divorce from Brendan Blackstock was finalized. The change came after Clarkson decided it was best for her and the former couple’s two kids — Remington “Remy” Alexander, now nine, and daughter River Rose, 10 — to have a fresh start somewhere new.
The inside source who spoke with People said, “After her divorce, she wanted to focus on balance and not burnout.”
However, the source continued, “Daytime TV is still demanding. She’s thinking that she might need a shift next year when her contract is up. She still has time to figure out what’s best for her career and family. She was never one to rush into things.”
During the sixth season of her talk show, there was widespread speculation about Clarkson after she missed two weeks of episodes in March without explanation, requiring other celebrities to fill in for her at the last minute.
In addition to pulling her away from quality time with her kids, her talk show schedule has made it hard to tour and create new music, although she did release the new single “Where Have You Been” in the spring of 2025.
At an Atlantic City, New Jersey, concert in May, Page Six reported that Clarkson told the audience, “We haven’t done a show in a while, y’all, ’cause I have a talk show. It’s like a whole other job.”
Kelly Clarkson & Her Team Are Up for 8 Emmy Nominations in 2025
Although Clarkson may be frustrated behind the scenes, Emmy voters clearly can’t tell, because they just gave her and her team eight Daytime Emmy nominations, announced on July 10.
According to People, “The Kelly Clarkson Show” has won 22 Emmys since it launched in 2019, per People, including three for Clarkson as a host.
Clarkson has some tough competition in the category, including against another “American Idol” alum — season three powerhouse finalist Jennifer Hudson, whose talk show was nominated for three awards, including for Outstanding Talk Series and Host. Other hosts nominated in 2025 are Jenna Bush Hager and Hoda Kotb, Drew Barrymore, and Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos.
