Kelly Clarkson Shares ‘Honest’ Parenting Advice

American Idol” alum Kelly Clarkson might not have a parenting mantra she lives by, but she does follow a simple motherhood approach. Find out her rule for addressing the moments when she messes up with her kids.

Kelly Clarkson Said She’s Never Gotten Amazing Parenting Advice

During the March 27 episode of the “Not Gonna Lie with Kylie Kelce” podcast, the host asked Clarkson for the best piece of parenting advice she’s received.

Turns out, Clarkson hasn’t ever been offered up anything that really stood out to her, so she developed her own philosophy.

“I like to ask all my guests who are moms, ‘What’s the best piece of motherhood advice that you’ve ever received?'” Kelce asked.

Clarkson noted, “I’m sure I have … but nothing I like live by or a mantra or anything.”

“My thing that I just tell moms is, ‘Look, we’re all trying our best,'” she began, before stating, “Well, no we’re not — we’re not all trying our best.”

The singer explained, “But most of us are trying our best. We’re going to [expletive] up. Like, we’re gonna mess up. And we don’t mean to but, like I have this conversation with my kids. If I lose my temper on something because I’m just like over it because I’ve had to tell you so many times … like I look at them and I go, ‘Mommy’s human. And that was a human moment.'”

Clarkson continued, “And that is not where I should have gone but I own it. I think it’s important to show that to them. I just think this whole filtered, perfection thing — that’s not real.”

She added, “And so I think, being honest is the best.”

Kelly Clarkson Shares Her Big Pet Peeve About Schools

During the podcast appearance, Clarkson also touched on the one thing that’s challenging as a working mom. The “American Idol” winner said she’s not a fan of when schools schedule kid performances during a weekday.

“Why do schools have things in the middle of the [expletive] day?” Clarkson asked. “Like your daughter has a performance, cool … I get to be the [expletive] that misses it because you decided that it would be a real opportune moment at 10 a.m. on a Thursday when we’re out here hustling.”

The singer noted, “And then [my daughter] is like, ‘Why weren’t you there? This person’s mommy was there.’ And I was like, ‘Congratulations to her because she made different decisions that led to her being able to be there on a Thursday at 10 a.m.'”

Clarkson added, “That is cruel because we look like [expletive].”
