Blackstock died on August 7, 2025, following a long battle with cancer. He was 48. A rep for his family shared the sad news in a statement.

“It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away. Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family,” the statement read. “We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”

According to an August 8 report from People, a source told the outlet that Clarkson is “staying strong” for her kids, River Rose and Remington Alexander.

“Kelly and Brandon had their ups and downs, but at the end of the day, he was the father of her children and she is absolutely heartbroken for them,” the insider shared.

They added, “Her kids are her entire world, and she’s staying strong for their sake.”

People also reports that, according to a source, Clarkson has “been devastated” for the kids.

“When she found out that he was sick, she remained protective of him for their sake,” the insider said.

The source continued, “Kelly has always tried to keep things classy. It became clear earlier this year that Brandon was not doing well. She’s been devastated for the kids.”

On August 6, Clarkson took to Instagram to announce that she was canceling her shows because her ex-husband was ill.

“Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas,” she explained.

The singer continued, “While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them.”

She added, “I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding.”

Her fans lit up the comments section with words of love and support, including, “Never apologize for putting your kids first” and “Sending love and prayers to you and your babies.”
