As People explained in 2013, Clarkson and Blackstock first envisioned an outdoor event in Nashville and had planned to use their own backyard as the venue. However, when wedding planning became overwhelming, the couple decided to pivot.

“We just got so overwhelmed by it – all the decisions,” the singer explained. In lieu of the more formal event, they chose to elope. As Clarkson shared, the pair felt that a more private wedding was very fitting. “Our lives are so in the spotlight all the time,” she said. “Everything is such a spectacle, we were like, ‘We would rather have an intimate moment that’s special.'”

The couple divorced in 2022, but share two children, River Rose and Remington Alexander. As Parade reported, Clarkson issued a statement shortly before her ex-husband’s death postponing her Las Vegas residency. “While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them,” the singer said.
