Kelly Clarkson‘s ex-husband Brandon Blackstock died after a lengthy battle with cancer, NBC News reports. He was 48. The “American Idol” winner’s last Instagram post before his passing announced that she was postponing her shows because Blackstock was ill.
Brandon Blackstock Dies After 3 Year Battle With Cancer
On August 7, 2025, multiple outlets reported on Blackstock’s death. “It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away,” a spokesperson for Blackstock shared in a statement.
“Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time,” the statement added.
Blackstock and Clarkson divorced in 2022, two years after announcing their separation. They shared two children: daughter River Rose and son Remington Alexander.
Kelly Clarkson Canceled Her August Shows Due to Personal Matter
In Clarkson’s last Instagram post before Blackstock’s death, she explained that she was canceling the remainder of her August “Studio Sessions” Las Vegas residency concerts.
On August 6, she wrote on Instagram: “Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas.”
Clarkson continued, “While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them.”
She added, “I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding.”
Fans shared an outpouring of love, support, and prayers for Clarkson and her family during this difficult time.
“My deepest condolences to you, the kids & your whole family,” one person commented on the Instagram post. “I’ve always admired you for doing the right thing regardless of things that have happened to you. Your true fans know you, love you and will be here for you until the end. Sending you the biggest hug.”
Another fan wrote, “I commend Kelly for making the decisions she has made, and I fully support her. I offer my deepest condolences for her loss, Brandon’s family, and all others connected to this unfortunate tragedy.”
