Former ‘American Idol’ Contestant Gets Candid About Katy Perry

A former “American Idol” contestant got candid with his opinion of a new Katy Perry song on his TikTok page.

“This can’t be the same person who eliminated me on American Idol 5 years ago,” contestant Steven James wrote in the caption of a video that showed him listening to Perry’s new song, “OK.” His facial expressions indicated that he was not a fan of the song.

Some fans quickly rushed to Perry’s defense, although others panned the song. “No way we’re hating on Katy Perry as if she didn’t drop the best album ever when we were kids,” wrote one person on James’ TikTok comment thread.

Although some fans agreed with James’ initial take of the song, other people wrote that they liked it on his comment thread. “Yes, she is and that song is really good,” a person responded.

“It’s growing on me tbh,” James responded to that person.

“I don’t even know who you are,” another fan wrote James. “Hey.. it’s gonna be ok,” he responded to that person.

Another person wrote on James’ TikTok thread that Perry’s song “sounds like the end of the episode of one of those teen dramas from the 2010s 😭.”

“It’s giving the Arthur theme song 😂,” another fan wrote, to which James responded with a skull emoji.

In September, Perry appeared on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast and described her inspirations for her music.

“I wrote these songs from my experience of my whole life going through this metamorphosis, and he was one of the people to help facilitate all that — one of the writers, one of the producers,” she said on the podcast.

According to US Weekly, Perry quit “American Idol” in May. She was replaced with new Judge Carrie Underwood.

“I think this probably will be my last show, my last season for ‘Idol,’” she told “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

“I mean, I love ‘Idol’ so much. It’s connected me with, like, the heart of America, but I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse to my own beat, you what I’m saying?” she added to Jimmy Kimmel, according to Us Weekly.
