Did John Foster Make the Top 5 of ‘American Idol’ 2025?

Eighteen-year-old country crooner John Foster, who made it into the top seven of “American Idol” season 23, vied for viewers’ votes again on May 11, 2025. It was the first of two Disney nights, during which contestants had to perform music from Disney’s vast song catalog. Viewers had less than two hours to vote for their favorites during the show, determining who would make it through to the top 5 of season 23.

Voting closed during the final commercial break, and the results were handed over to host Ryan Seacrest to reveal which members of top 7 would advance to the top 5. So did Foster make it through? YES, he made it through to the top 5!


Dozens of Family & Friends Have Supported John Foster at ‘American Idol’ Live Shows

Foster has had a huge contingency of supporters from around the country — including his hometown of Addis, Louisiana — supporting him at the live shows in Los Angeles. On May 5, The Advocate published photos provided by the teen’s friends and family — 45 of whom gathered to cheer him on at the live shows.

He also got to celebrate Mother’s Day with his immediate family, including his mom Amanda, at Disneyland after making the top 7, posting photos from their time together.

He captioned the post, “It was such a pleasure to spend some time with my family at Disneyland ahead of our Disney Nights on @americanidol! 😁 Get ready to vote next Sunday and Monday! Here we go! ❤️”


John Foster Raised $5,300 for the American Cancer Society This Week

During his audition for “American Idol,” Foster told judges Luke BryanLionel Richie, and Carrie Underwood that he had dreams of becoming an oncologist.

Even while competing on “American Idol,” he’s been taking online classes for his second semester at Louisiana State University, studying biology, his grandma Verbie Benoit told The Advocate.

On May 2, Foster launched a Facebook fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, writing, “As many of you know, I am currently studying to become an oncologist (a physician who treats cancer). Whether I decide to pursue medicine or music full-time, I will always be involved in fighting for a cure.”

A week later on May 9, he revealed that his fans had raised $5,300 for the American Cancer Society, and chose 15 donors at random to receive autographs in the mail from him.
