Jelly Roll Reveals Hardest Part of His Weight Loss Journey

Jelly Roll has had an impressive weight loss journey — he’s down 200 pounds so far! The “American Idol” season 23 artist-in-residence shares the most challenging part of losing weight isn’t the diet or exercise, however.

Jelly Roll Shares the Most Difficult Part of Weight Loss, Offers Advice

During a May 2025 episode of the “Not a Damn Chance!” podcast, Jelly Roll shared the hardest part of trying to lose weight.

Patience and commitment are the keys to success. “I encourage all really obese people to be patient that first month because your body is going through so many early changes that you’re not going to see the results that you think you’re entitled to,” Jelly Roll explained.

He continued, “And the biggest thing that was hard for me in all my weight loss journeys was, if I spent one week like eating down to the tee, and that scale didn’t jump 13 pounds, I was like … ‘give me a pizza right now.'”

The singer admitted it takes “quite a while” in the early days of weight loss to see results, but then you have a “turning point.” He noted, “Then I started seeing the scale go down every week and I was like, ‘ooh.'”

His advice? “Just stick with it,” Jelly Roll shared in the caption of his Instagram post promoting the podcast interview.

Jelly Roll Reveals Adventurous Bucket List Goals

During an April 2025 appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” Jelly Roll said he had lost close to 200 pounds and had some big bucket list items he hoped to tackle.

“For the non-fluffy people in the world, I would give y’all some educational course here — to do all the fun stuff in life, you’ve got to be under 250,” Jelly Roll shared.

He explained, “I want to skydive, I want to ride a roller coaster. I want to ride a bull.”

The singer added, “I know it sounds crazy. I want to wrestle an alligator. I’ve got a list of things that I want to do.”

In May, Jelly Roll ran a 5K and shared his goal for the following year’s 5K event.

“I’m going to lose another 100 pounds,” the singer said. “I’m going to do this in 40 or 35 minutes flat next year in May, baby … And for the first time in my career, at the end of the 5K, I’m going to stand on this stage and take off my [expletive] shirt next year.”
