“American Idol” season 23 winner Jamal Roberts got a special visit from gospel superstars David Mann and Tamela Mann after a performance this weekend. Roberts took to Instagram to share a pic of himself with the couple and the caption was hilarious.
“As I walked off the stage after performing and was walking to my dressing room, somebody yelled out, ‘Nephew, you don’t see us! 🤣🤣,'” Roberts wrote. “I looked around and there they were. My auntie and uncle!!!!”
The married couple who are famous for their singing as well as their performances in Tyler Perry productions surprised Roberts and showed him they are his biggest fans. But David Mann wanted to make sure he looked good for the photo, first and foremost.
“Unc said, ‘Go on and take the picture while the baby oil is fresh 🤣🤣'” Roberts concluded the caption. All three performers looked great, including Roberts who was rocking an all blue suit and a simple chain.
The Manns Join the List of Roberts’ Celebrity Fans

Jamal Roberts’ career has been on fire of late with the release of his singles “Heal” and “Mississippi,” and many crowd-pleasing performances. This past weekend alone Roberts played two sold-out shows at Nashville’s City Winery, where he was joined by another “Idol” alum Kolbi Jordan.
But even before winning “American Idol,” Roberts gained legions of fans and had many celebrities rooting for him. Jennifer Hudson, who competed on the show’s third season before reaching fame was over the moon when Roberts was named the winner.
“He did it!!!!! Congratulations Jamal Roberts!!! SO well deserved! You are a star!” Hudson posted on X. Legendary vocalist Anita Baker echoed the sentiment in her own post which read, “CONGRATS! MUSIC [has] found its way Back home thru Jamal Roberts.”
Roberts Has Many More Performances Coming Up
This fall, Roberts will be joining Brandy and Monica as a special guest on their The Boy Is Mine tour, which also features Kelly Rowland.
Roberts announced he would be part of the tour via Instagram back in June, and he was as grateful as ever for the amazing opportunity. “The things God is doing in my life 🥺” the singer captioned the post. “Hmmmmm and new music is on the way 🔥🔥🔥 Sit tight 🤞🏾 oh and I love yall ❤️💪🏾”
The tour, which spans the U.S., kicks off on October 16 and runs through early December.
