Carrie Underwood Shares Her Foolproof Trick for Dealing With Social Media Haters

Carrie Underwood doesn’t let the haters get her down because she has the perfect hack for avoiding social media negativity. The “American Idol” judge calls it the “post and ghost” system and it’s so simple.

Carrie Underwood Shares Simple Way to Never Let Haters Get to Her

Underwood uses social media but she cuts herself off from any of the criticisms that might be hurled at her. She calls it “post and ghost,” where she posts content and then walks away from it.

Since she’s busy with “American Idol,” performing, and raising kids, it makes the method pretty easy.

“I stole that from Joe Rogan. It’s really important when you think about social media that you realize it’s not the real world,” Underwood told E! News.

The singer continued, “It took me a long time to realize that, and a long time to be secure enough in myself to be like, ‘Do I care if somebody doesn’t like my hair today, or this thing I sang or how I sang it? I don’t.'”

She added, “I got a lot going on in my life. I’m 42 years old. I’ve got two kids I’m trying to raise to be good humans. I’m just out there doing the best I can, so if I want to post something, I’m just going to do it and leave it there.”

Carrie Underwood Shares Tip With ‘American Idol’ Hopefuls

During the April 28 episode of “American Idol,” Underwood passed her tip along to the hopefuls, since they’re suddenly getting more attention on social media.

“I want to tell you all an important trick,” Underwood said. “It’s called ‘post and ghost.’ You put your stuff on social media and you don’t look at the comments.”

She continued, “That’s how I live my life, man. Anybody who thinks they’re yelling at me, or insulting me, or telling me I’m a certain way, or not enough this, or I’m too much that, they’re just yelling at the clouds. I don’t hear or see any of it.”

The singer added, “So, post and ghost people.”

After the show, Underwood discussed social media with Parade, explaining how there were message boards back when she was on the show in season 4. “So that was kind of the beginning of social media. But you had to seek it out a little more,” she said. “Now, it’s in your face no matter what you do.”

She noted, “And especially if you are an aspiring musician, you have to put yourself on social media. It’s part of the deal because you want to gain fans and it’s such a huge way to do that.”

The singer explained her perspective. “Becoming comfortable within yourself and what you do, putting it out there for people to see and looking at the people that you like to follow [is my advice]. But then, do you really care what somebody that you’ve never met before and are never going to see cares about you?”

She added, “Don’t worry about it. Do your thing.”
