Details about President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration event are starting to trickle in — with Carrie Underwood confirmed to perform “America the Beautiful.” Find out who the “American Idol” judge will be performing with.
Carrie Underwood Listed on Program for Donald Trump’s Inauguration
On January 13, multiple outlets confirmed that Underwood is scheduled to perform at President-elect Trump’s inauguration on January 20, 2025 in Washington, D.C.
Fox News Digital reports that, according to a Trump-Vance Inaugural Committee spokesperson, Underwood is set to perform during the swearing-in ceremony for President-elect Trump and Vice President-elect J.D. Vance.
A program for the inauguration event posted on X shows that Underwood will sing “America the Beautiful” along with the Armed Forces Chorus and the United States Naval Academy Glee Club.
The performance will follow the Vice Presidential Oath of Office administered to Vance and it will be followed by the Presidential Oath of Office administered to Trump by the Chief Justice of the United States.
At the January 20 ceremony, Underwood didn’t perform until after Trump was sworn in and delivered a speech. Due to technical difficulties, the “American Idol” winner had to sing a cappella, telling those in attendance to join in. “You know the words — help me out here,” she said.
Trump’s Inauguration Will Feature Other Musical Performances
According to the inauguration ceremony program, the event begins with a musical prelude by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Combined Chorus. The United States Marine Marching Band is also set to perform “The President’s Own” before U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar, as Chair of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies for the 60th Presidential Inauguration, calls the ceremony to order.
Following the invocation, classical singer Christopher Macchio performs a musical selection. Vance is then sworn in, followed by Underwood’s performance, and finally, President-elect Trump is sworn in as the 47th President of the United States.
The United States Naval Academy Glee Club is set to perform the “Battle Hymn of the Republic.” Following Trump’s Inaugural Address, faith leaders provide a Benediction, and the event ends with Macchio performing the national anthem.
Country superstar Underwood appears to be the biggest name on the program for the event.
Turning Point USA is hosting an Inaugural Eve Ball on January 19 that will include a performance by The Village People. Their hits “Y.M.C.A.” and “Macho Man” have gotten plenty of play at Trump’s rallies.
At Trump’s 2017 inauguration, “America the Beautiful” was performed by The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square. “America’s Got Talent” season 5 runner-up, classical singer Jackie Evancho, performed the U.S. national anthem at the event.
Underwood confirmed her upcoming inauguration performance in a statement to Variety. “I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event,” she said. “I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”
In 2019, the singer told The Guardian why she avoids politics. “I try to stay far out of politics if possible, at least in public, because nobody wins,” she said at the time. “It’s crazy. Everybody tries to sum everything up and put a bow on it, like it’s black and white. And it’s not like that.”
