Even busy “American Idol” judges have hobbies, and Carrie Underwood put hers on display backstage before the finale. In an Instagram post, the singer stuns in an outfit that isn’t hot off the rack, but hot off her own crochet hook.
Underwood showed off the original creation while posing next to Slater Nalley, whose ‘Idol’ dream ended with a Top 5 finish. Nalley and Underwood performed “I’m Gonna Love You” together during the live finale. Although the country star didn’t wear her homemade outfit for the show, fans were still loving her choice to confidently show off her skills.
Fans Are Buzzing About Underwood’s Handiwork

Underwood is well-known for rocking designer looks during performances, but fans found her homemade ensemble to be a breath of fresh air. Many shared encouraging comments on the outfit, such as one fan who wrote: “I think you’ve crocheted yourself out of the beginner status! Good job Carrie!!”
As Country Living shared earlier this year, the singer has treated fans to sneak peeks of her crochet journey in her Instagram stories. It all started with posts featuring a colorful granny squares project, and Underwood has clearly continued honing her skills since then. On May 5th, she posted a photo of herself wearing what she called a “tomato top” on the ‘Idol’ set. Her finale look features a very similar pattern in the center of the top.
The Singer Made Headlines With a Throwback Dress in April

Underwood’s backstage outfit isn’t the first ensemble that has had fans buzzing this year. At the end of April, the singer wore a throwback dress that got an emotional reaction from fans. Underwood donned the dress she wore during her own ‘American Idol’ finale back in 2005.
Fans loved this subtle tribute to Underwood’s journey in a season that had already been filled with fond memories new and old.
