Carrie Underwood Says 1 Thing About ‘American Idol’ Gives Her a ‘Flash of Fear’

Carrie Underwood may have been crowned the “American Idol” season 4 winner, but she admits that there’s still one aspect of the show that gives her anxiety. Find out why she feels a little bit of PTSD every time she hears the iconic theme song.

In an April 21 Instagram post, Underwood revealed how the “American Idol” theme song makes her feel, all these years later. Spoiler alert: it’s stressful for her.

“The ‘Idol’ theme song gives me anxiety. For real!” she explained in the caption.

In the video, Underwood shared, “For the record, the ‘American Idol’ da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da baaa-errr, the music, like gives me anxiety.”

The singer added, “I get like this flash of fear in my heart, like nervousness, because it’s the same! PTSD.”

Underwood Said the First Live ‘Idol’ Show Was ‘Rough’

The “Idol” alum is putting her PTSD aside and carrying on with the job at hand however.

In an interview with ET Online after the April 21 live show, Underwood shared what her experience has been like as a judge so far. “It’s a lot of fun. More than anything, I love to just like be a fan,” the country singer said. “I love sitting out in the audience, and there’s a song I know, and everybody’s having fun with it, it’s fun for me! I’m having a blast.”

In addition to the fun, however, the judges have work to do and that can prove challenging, given all the talent on the show.

“It was one of those things where we try to think of what people want to see, the talent is insane and somebody’s gotta be voted off,” she explained.

Underwood added, “I don’t take it lightly that we have people’s futures in our hands, and I really would like just America to vote. I don’t want to be put in that position again, so it’s up to you guys. You have to vote for your favorites.”

When the interviewer noted, “I heard you had a rough night,” Underwood agreed, responding, “I did. I mean, my night was paling in comparison to the contestants that are no longer a part of the competition, but it is an extremely tough spot to be in.”

She added, “I really just wanted to pass the buck off to Luke [Bryan] and Lionel [Richie], but I feel like we were on the same page.”
