How to Vote for Breanna Nix During ‘American Idol’ Live Finale: ‘Changed My Life’

Twenty-five-year-old Breanna Nix of Denton, Texas, started her “American Idol” journey by telling judges Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood, and Lionel Richie that she was “just” a stay-at-home mom — prompting Underwood to tell her to eliminate the “just” from her vocabulary since being a mom is “the most important job.” That exchange and Nix’s determination to succeed have inspired moms across the country to support the aspiring singer.

On May 18, 2025, Nix goes up against fellow top 3 contestants John Foster and Jamal Roberts, vying for viewers’ votes during the three-hour, season 23 live finale. Her fans will have to vote quickly to keep her in the competition, since the third-place finisher will be announced by host Ryan Seacrest halfway through the show. Here’s how to cast your votes for Nix…

Three Ways to Vote for Breanna Nix During ‘American Idol’ Finale

Voting will open at the start of the finale at 8 p.m. Eastern time, per ABC, and will close during the last commercial break, around 10:50 p.m. Eastern time. The show airs live coast-to-coast, so fans on the West Coast must tune in and vote starting at 5 p.m. Pacific.

As with past episodes, viewers have three ways to vote. You can cast up to 10 votes for Nix on each platform, totaling up to 30 votes for her.

The first way to vote is through ABC’s websiteThe second way is via the “American Idol” app, either via Apple for iPhones or via Google for Androids. Both the site and the app require signing in; you can create a free account that works for both or use an existing MyDisney account.

On the website and app, you do not have to wait for Nix to perform to vote for her. But if you change your mind as the show goes on, you can change your votes, as long as you click to “save” your changes before voting ends for the night.

The third way to vote is via text. You can text Nix’s unique contestant number — 9 — to 21523. As with the other voting options, you can cast up to another 10 votes for her this way.

While back in Denton for her hometown visit, Nix shared on Instagram that “American Idol changed my life.” She also told local station WFAA that no matter where she lands in the finale, she’s eager to launch her music career post-show with her pianist husband Austin, with whom she shares four-year-old son Emerson.

“We’re gonna get some songs out there,” she told the station. “We already have a couple that are just kind of waiting.”

The night before the finale, Nix released her first-ever single, “Higher,” through the show’s record label partner, 19 Recordings — a perk of being one of the season 23 finalists.

She told WFAA that her post-show vision is that after releasing new music, “We’re gonna hopefully be soaring across the moon and seeing everybody, and singing and worshiping together. That’s my main goal, is I wanna hug people and speak hope into their life and just go out there and start touring.”
