Texas native Breanna Nix, an aspiring contemporary Christian singer who made it into the top 10 of “American Idol” season 23, vied for viewers’ votes again on May 4, 2025, with her rendition of Adele’s “Water Under the Bridge.” Contestants performed songs made famous by “iconic women in music,” the theme of the episode that aired live from coast-to-coast. Viewers had less than two hours to vote for their favorites during the show, determining who would make it through to the top 8 of season 23.
SPOILER ALERT: Do not continue reading if you do NOT want to know whether Nix made it into the top 8.
After voting closed during the final commercial break, host Ryan Seacrest was ready to reveal which members of season 23’s top 10 would advance to the top 8. So did Nix make it through?
Yes! She made it through.
And here’s a breakdown of tonight’s full results.
Carrie Underwood’s Comments to Breanna Nix During Her Audition Went Viral
Nix’s audition for “American Idol” went viral in March, when she described herself as “just a stay-at-home mom” before singing judge Carrie Underwood’s hit “Jesus Take the Wheel.”
“Never say, ‘I’m just a stay-at-home mom,'” Underwood told her. “You have the most important job.”
With her husband accompanying her on piano and her sleepy son Emerson sweetly sitting in Underwood’s lap, Nix aced the audition and Underwood got teary-eyed while snuggling her toddler.
“I’m sorry, he’s just adorable and sweet and it got to me,” the country superstar said.
Breanna Nix Says Her Confidence Has Blossomed on ‘American Idol’
In the months since Nix, 25, first auditioned for the show, she has shared her faith through a variety of contemporary Christian songs and shown that her confidence has grown as a performer. She’s also gained a legion of fans that call themselves Nix Nation.
“I do feel like I belong now,” she told Parade in late April. “When I first came into ‘American Idol,’ I was hoping that I would just get through the audition, and not even get through to the point of getting a Golden Ticket, but just to make it through that moment.”
“Over every round, I feel like I’ve learned a little bit more about myself,” she continued. “Believing in yourself is really weird, but it’s a powerful thing. And I’m so happy that I’m finally being able to experience it.”
Nix also told People, “I’ve grown so much as a person and in my personal opinion, ‘American Idol’ has been the best thing that’s ever happened to me. It’s taught me who I am. It’s taught me what I’m capable of.”
The top 8 of season 23 will move on to compete again on May 5, competing to make it into the top 7.
