‘American Idol’ Top 3: Did Breanna Nix Get Through?

Breanna Nix, a 25-year-old Texas mom who made it into the top 5 of “American Idol” season 23, vied for viewers’ votes again on May 12, 2025. It was the second of two Disney nights, during which Nix had to perform two tune from Disney’s vast song catalog. Viewers had less than two hours to vote for their favorites during the show, determining who would make it through to the top 3 of season 23.

SPOILER ALERT: Do not continue reading if you do NOT want to know whether Nix made it into the top 3.

Voting closed during the final commercial break, and the results were handed over to host Ryan Seacrest to reveal which members of top 5 would advance to the top 3. So did Nix make it through? YES, Nix did make it through!

Carrie Underwood Encouraged Breanna Nix to ‘Have Fun’ With Her Music

During the May 12 live show, Nix — a 25-year-old mom to four-year-old Emerson — said she felt like she was living a dream while at Disneyland with her family, calling it “the best thing in the whole wide world.” With her mom in tow, the two women shared tears over how far Nix has come in her life.

The show then switched gears, showing Nix onstage as she launched into “This Will Be (An Everlasting Love),” backed up by a full horn section and backup singers she sweetly thanked at the end. After she finished her performance, Underwood asked how she was feeling and Nix joked, “A lot of words!”

Laughing, Underwood said people at home don’t realize how much is going on for contestants are going through, and she told Nix to just try to have fun with her next song. Bryan said she did a great job while Richie said she definitely “delivered” and has learned how to perform under pressure. Nix admitted “songs like this scare me to death” but that she wants to keep growing, so she gave it a shot.

Breanna Nix Dedicated Her Second Song of the Night to Her Husband

For her second song on the second Disney night, Nix chose to sing “You’ll Be in My Heart” from “Tarzan” because it’s her husband’s favorite Disney song. She said that her husband, Austin, is her “rock” and that she felt like a princess on their wedding five years ago.

While working with guest mentor Lin-Manuel Miranda, Austin and their son arrived to watch. Miranda encouraged her to use the energy she feels around her hubby and tap into the knowing that they’ve proved to naysayers that their love is everlasting.

Back in the studio, Nix walked from the back of the stage to the front to deliver her powerful rendition of the tune, looking straight at her husband in the audience, who was teary-eyed throughout.

The judges loved her performance. Richie said, “I have to tell you, when you lock in on a note, it ain’t going nowhere — it’s so strong and then you can take it down to a whisper.” He said it’s been “wonderful” to watch her confidence soar.

Underwood said she loved that Nix had such a “sweet moment” with her family and yet brought everyone in the audience into it. She also said that Nix has been “so solid” throughout the whole competition. Bryan, meanwhile, said that for Nix, it’s clear music is her “safe space.” He stumbled over his words and lost his train of thought, but in the end said that Nix was great. Her husband, meanwhile, said that they started this “American Idol” journey “on a lark” and that he’s “so proud” of Nix for making it so far in the competition.
