“American Idol” alum Kelly Clarkson’s ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, died at age 48. On August 7, a representative for the Blackstock family confirmed Brandon’s passing following a private three-year battle with cancer.

“It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away,” the family said in a statement.
“Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”
While the Blackstone family is reeling from the loss, here’s another heartbreaking detail that has surfaced.
Brandon Was Going To Be A Grandfather Again
Just days before Brandon lost the battle to cancer, he had received the heartfelt news that he would soon become a grandfather again. His daughter Savannah, from a previous marriage, is expecting her second child, news that arrived during what would be his final days.
Brandon: A Father of Four & Quiet Family Man

Brandon shares two kids with Kelly, River and Remy. He shared Savannah and Seth with his first wife, Melissa Ashworth, whom he was married to from 2001 to 2012. He became a grandfather in 2022 when Savannah welcomed her first son, Lake.
Despite being a private figure, Brandon occasionally enjoyed public moments with family. In March 2024, he was photographed at the Houston Rodeo alongside his children, his brother Shelby Blackstock, and Shelby’s mother Reba McEntire, who was previously married to Brandon’s father, Narvel Blackstock.
A Legacy Rooted in Music & Family
Brandon Blackstock spent his career working behind the scenes in the entertainment world, quietly shaping the industry as a respected talent manager.
His roots ran deep in music royalty—his father, Narvel Blackstock, managed and was married to Reba McEntire for years. At the same time, Brandon’s nearly decade-long marriage to Grammy winner Kelly Clarkson further tied him to the spotlight.
But those who knew him best remember more than just his professional connections. Brandon was a devoted father, a calm and steady presence, and a man who faced life’s challenges with quiet strength. In his final years, he turned his focus inward, spending time with his children, his family, and the meaningful, grounded life he built away from fame.
