Benson Boone issued an apology to viewers of the 2025 Grammy Awards ceremony.
During the February 2 awards show broadcast, the Grammy-nominated singer capped off his musical performance by “adjusting” the groin area of his baby blue jumpsuit. He later explained the awkward on-camera move.
Taking to his Instagram stories on February 3, Boone captioned a selfie with, “Sorry for adjusting my jumpsuit so aggressively on stage tonight. That thing was extremely restricting in certain areas.”
The 67th Grammy Awards was held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles and was televised live on CBS.
Benson Boone’s Onstage Move Went Viral
Boone, 22, made his debut at the Grammy Awards looking straight out of the 1970s. The mustached singer started out wearing a tuxedo but stripped down to a skintight blue jumpsuit as he performed his hit song “Beautiful Things,” complete with a series of jumps and backflips.
At the end of the performance, Boone forcefully adjusted his jumpsuit. The singer appeared to mouth “Whoa” as he adjusted his pants.
Fans had a field day on social media, immortalizing the moment in posts on X and TikTok.
“Jumping off a piano, doing multiple flips in a baby blue sequin leisure suit onesie, and adjusting your [expletive] in front of a world audience is certainly a flex, Benson Boone,” one X user wrote.
At the 67th Grammy Awards, Boone was nominated in the Best New Artist category alongside Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, Doechii, Raye, Shaboozey, and Teddy Swims. Chapelle Roan won the category.
Benson Boone Quit ‘American Idol’ In 2021
In 2021, a teenaged Boone was a contestant on the 19th season of “American Idol.” After he auditioned in front of coaches Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie, Perry told Boone she could see him winning “American Idol” if he wanted to.
Boone earned a coveted ”Golden Ticket” to Hollywood, but dropped out of the competition soon after.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight in February 2025, Boone explained his unexpected exit from the TV talent show. “You know what? When I was doing ‘American Idol,’ I didn’t even know if I wanted to do music for the rest of my life,” he said. “I didn’t know if this was gonna be my career.”
He noted that quitting the show actually helped him realize that music was his true passion. “So, I think it was when I quit ‘American Idol’ that I was like, ‘OK, I’m gonna do this,’” Boone shared. “I do think my perspective has changed a lot and I think if you’re passionate about something, if you love something, you should just chase it.”
