“American Idol” season 23 finalist Breanna Nix shared a snippet of a new song yesterday on social media. She posted a reel of herself singing it in the car, with the text “Should I drop this” written on top. Nix did not reveal the name of the powerful ballad, but she did share a bit of the story behind it.
“I wrote this about my nephew a few years ago and slowly been getting it just right. Should I drop this? ❤️” she captioned the video. Nix also posted the clip to her Instagram story with the same question presented as a poll. The options were “YES YES YES” and “what are you waiting for!?”
Breanna Nix’s Debut Single Was a Huge Success
On May 18, Nix released her debut single “Higher” and it was extremely well-received. Nix, who came in third place behind runner-up John Foster and winner Jamal Roberts on “Idol,” clearly gained a legion of fans while on the show.
“Higher,” a cover of the original Toby Lightman song, quickly gained traction, landing in the no. 1 spot on the iTunes country chart.
And “Higher” found a huge fan in Nix’s young son, Emerson. “My new single is my son’s favorite song,” Nix said in an adorable Instagram reel featuring her and Emerson belting out the tune in the car.
Breanna Nix Said ‘American Idol’ Changed Her Life
Although Nix, 25, didn’t win the competition, she counts her time on “Idol” as “the best thing that’s ever happened” to her.
“When I tried out for ‘American Idol,’ I didn’t really think that it would go anywhere,” the singer shared with People. “It was kind of just a joke when I submitted a video and here we are.” According to Nix, the experience gave her much-needed confidence boost as well.
“I think I’m starting to believe in myself, which is really weird because for my whole life I didn’t think I was worth anything,” Nix revealed, adding, “But I really like it.”
After “Idol” and the success of her first single, Nix made her debut at The Grand Ole Opry on June 5. The inspirational singer received two standing ovations during her performance at the venue, and she described the experience as “an absolute dream come true.”
“Thank You, Jesus, for this incredible opportunity—for Your faithfulness and grace in my life. I wouldn’t be here without it. All Glory to God❤️,” Nix captioned an Instagram post that featured a carousel of pics from the event.
