Who got the first golden buzzer?
SPOILER WARNING: do not continue reading if you do not want to know the results for the America’s Got Talent season 20 premiere.
And the first golden buzzer went to…
LightWire!
The collaborative used technology to create an incredible three-dimensional light show. After the studio lights went dark, the glow of the group’s performance illuminated the auditorium. Dancers dressed in luminescent dresses twirled and flew. A larger-than-life tiger leapt towards the judges’ table and a huge tree magically grew towards the ceiling, all created by the innovative techniques of the talented team.
Simon Cowell was the judge who granted the golden buzzer to the overjoyed contestants. He even rushed onstage to congratulate the team after awarding them with the honor.
First Contestant Eric Booker Chugged Hot Sauce
The show’s season 20 kickoff episode began with Eric Booker, whose talent involved drinking substances of various difficulties. He began with pickle juice, a fairly popular flavor, but he quickly moved on to less appealing drinks. He downed a tub of creamed corn and one of hot dog water before attempting to finish a tub of hot sauce. Mel B, Sofia Vergara, and Howie activated their red buzzers, but Simon Cowell allowed Booker to finish his act.
Booker made it through most of the sauce before leaving the stage to grab a drink of milk. Although he did not make it through, Simon told the stunt artist he would have given him a yes.
Magician Zak Mirz Also Got Through
Another highlight of the night was Zak Mirz, who created a stunning trick where he appeared to supernaturally predict which side a set of wooden blocks would land on after being rolled by the judges.
The hopeful’s wife and young daughter watching from the wings added an emotional touch to the moment.
America’s Got Talent Season 20 Kicked Off Without Heidi Klum
The judging lineup this season consists of Sofia Vergara, Mel B, Howie Mandel, and Simon Cowell of American Idol fame.
So why isn’t Heidi Klum on America’s Got Talent anymore?
According to Soaps.com, Klum’s absence is rumored to be due to budget cuts at AGT. The report states that Klum commands one of the highest salaries in the reality TV world, and it’s possible the show can no longer afford her.
As for her replacement, Mel B, the former Spice Girl sounds thrilled to be back. “I kind of got laid off and fired, but yeah, I’m back now,” she told Today. Scary Spice was a judge on the talent competition from Seasons 8-13.
