Everything You Need to Know About LightWire, AGT Season 20’s First Golden Buzzer Winner

SPOILER WARNING: do not continue reading if you do not want to know the results for the America’s Got Talent season 20 premiere.

“America’s Got Talent” Season 20 is already off to an electrifying start. On Tuesday, May 27, the first Golden Buzzer of the season was awarded to LightWire, who wowed the judges and live audience with a standout performance.

The episode, which aired tonight on NBC and streams tomorrow on Peacock, saw returning judges Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, and Sofía Vergara. The judges were also joined by Mel B, making her first appearance on the panel since 2018.

Who Is LightWire?

LightWire is an immersive art and performance group from Brazil. The company was created by two brothers, one an artist and the other a tech enthusiast, who dreamed of combining their passions into something unforgettable

“I had a real dream in 2023 that me and my brother was on stage here. And now that dream’s come true,” one of the brothers told the judges nervously before the performance, hoping everything would go smoothly.

Per their official website, the group strives to “create a world where artistic performances can push the boundaries of reality. Immersive and innovative presentations that connect people in unexpected and exciting ways.”

“We had a challenge, wondering if it would work creatively, and it was amazing because, more than just an incredible delivery, the process was very organized. With just a few calls, we aligned the briefing, and they understood and delivered even more,” said Marcelo in a YouTube video featured on their site.

Light Wire Stuns With Art, Dance, and Technology

LightWire’s act offered far more than dazzling graphics — it was a mesmerizing fusion of live dance and cutting-edge visuals. Their performance swept the audience deep into the heart of the Brazilian jungle, where luminous jaguars prowled, boa constrictors slithered, and brilliantly colored birds took flight.

The judges were visibly impressed, rising to their feet for a standing ovation. Simon Cowell praised the act, saying, “Can I say something? You never ever know when you’re doing a new year, whether you’re going to see something better than you’ve seen before. And honest, I’m not just saying this, this was one of the most beautiful, stunning acts I’ve seen across all the Got Talents. You were so emotional, I don’t know why you were so nervous because you were always going to get one of…”

Before finishing his sentence, Cowell dramatically slammed the Golden Buzzer — making LightWire the first act of Season 20 to secure a direct spot in the live shows.

Afterward, one of the Light Wire team members emphasized the deeper meaning behind their performance, saying, “The Amazon is really important. The Amazon really matters [to the world].”

Backstage, Cowell continued his praise, telling the group, “It was actually magic. One of my favorite acts.”

What’s a Golden Buzzer?

If you didn’t know, an act on “America’s Got Talent” typically needs at least three out of four judges to say “yes” in order to advance from auditions to the live shows — but even then, it’s not guaranteed. The final lineup is ultimately determined during the judges’ deliberations.

However, if a judge is so impressed that they slam the Golden Buzzer — a feature first introduced in Season 10 — that act is guaranteed a direct ticket to the live shows. Over the years, the number of Golden Buzzers allowed per judge has shifted, and even host Terry Crews has joined the fun.

What’s Next for AGT Season 20?

With the Golden Buzzer already in play, fans can expect more show-stopping performances and fierce competition as the season unfolds. Live shows are set to kick off later this summer, promising even more surprises as the field narrows down.

Previous Golden Buzzer winners in AGT history have included big names like Brandon Leake, Kodi Lee, and Courtney Hadwin — and now Lightwire joins that celebrated lineup.

Stay tuned to “America’s Got Talent” Season 20 every Tuesday night on NBC and streaming on Peacock to follow LightWire’s journey and the rest of this year’s incredible acts.
